Privacy glass

Transparency or privacy glass? The choice is yours!

An area with plenty of windows provides a lot of light, but also a transparent impression. Sometimes you might want to avoid unwanted attention. With Priva-light, the 'smart' glazing, you can choose what you want: transparency or privacy. With the push of a button you can change the transparent window into an opaque wall. This is ideal for meetings or personal interviews.

The secret of Priva-Lite glass: the liquid crystals!

Priva-Lite is laminated glass consisting of two extra-clear Float glass sheets with a film of liquid crystals (LC film) which is attached between them. The LC film and the glass plates are joined together by two intermediate layers.

Composition of priva-lite glass:

The standard composition 55.4 mainly consists of two extra clear glass plates and has a total thickness of +/- 12mm. The polymer and the liquid crystals are in the LC film, so that the two inner sides are covered with a transparent electric conductive layer. The LC film is then connected to the power supply by two flat electric conductors.

Activate the crystals with just an ordinary switch!

When the privacy glass is not on power (the 'OFF' position), the liquid crystals in the LC film are not aligned. Due to their disordered location, the light is scattered in all directions. In this mode, Priva-lite is opaque and provides any desired privacy.
Once the power is connected to the two conducting layers, the crystals will become orientated and align.
Then, it looks just like normal transparent glazing. The transition from opaque to transparent happens almost instantly and can be repeated as often as you wish.

Privacy film

Privacy film is a foil filled with liquid crystals that change from opaque to transparent as a result of an applied electric voltage. With privacy film, each glass panel can be made nontransparent and immediately create a space with privacy. The desired degree of transparency can be determined by means of light regulation.

Easy added privacy layer on every glass type!

Privacy film can be applied to new glass without the use of glue. Each glass door, conference room window, glass façade, etcetera can be made as opaque as desired. Additionally, it is possible to use the opaque film as HD projection screen for (commercial) movie and photography.

How Privacy film works

Privacy film has a liquid crystal core that changes direction as a result of an applied electric voltage. When the applied electric voltage is applied on the core of liquid crystals, the liquid crystal are regularly ordered and light passes through the film. Now, the film is transparent. In the absence of the applied electric voltage, the liquid crystal is irregularly ordered and no light passes through. Now, the film is milky white, nontransparent.

Applications of Privacy film

Glass is applied increasingly often in buildings because of a unique characteristic, namely transparency. Privacy film combines the unique characteristic of glass with immediate privacy. Privacy film can be applied everywhere, on new and existing glass:

  • Offices, conference rooms, inner walls, glass doors and glass façades
  • Hotels, restaurants and bars
  • Fitness clubs and pools
  • Classrooms
  • Exhibit rooms and museums
  • Hospitals

Advantages of Privacy film

  • From transparent to privacy in a millisecond.
  • Attaches to the existing and new glass without glue.
  • Sun and heatproof.
  • Privacy film is a unique advertising medium.
  • Privacy film can be projected excellently.
  • No maintenance needed.
